The 2018 Crosstrek brings a full redesign and the second generation of the compact crossover to the market, with many improvements throughout the vehicle. The Crosstrek receives a new platform and new suspension design, providing a more stable ride while also making a smoother more comfortable ride. All-wheel drive is now standard on all Crosstreks and features Torque Vectoring, which provides improved handling on and off road. For 2018 the Crosstrek now has a 6-speed manual transmission designed for more acceleration and better highway efficiency. The engine in the 2018 gets a bump in power at 152 horsepower and a new 7-speed CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) is offered. A newly designed rear hatch provides for more cargo space and a wider hatch opening. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now come standard in every Crosstrek.
The 2018 Crosstrek is available in three trim levels; 2.0i, 2.0i Premium and 2.0i Limited. All Crosstreks are equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder boxer engine making 152 horsepower. This engine is mated to either a new 6-speed manual transmission or an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT). The CVT transmission comes standard in the 2.0i Limited trim. Both drivetrains come standard with all-wheel-drive, a specialty of Subaru, including Torque Vectoring providing improved handling and performance.
Subaru makes sure the Crosstrek is well equipped, with its base model 2.0i seeing a host of standard features. The base 2.0i includes 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, rearview camera, multi-function driver's display, cloth interior, faux carbon fiber interior trim, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
With a small step up in price, the 2.0i Premium adds significantly to the list of standard equipment. The Premium adds heated front seats, heated mirrors, automatic headlights, cargo shade, fog lights and a leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter.
Drivers looking at the top-of-the-line 2.0i Limited will get even more. The standard features of the Limited include leather seats with a power driver's seat,18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, 8.0-inch infotainment system display and adaptive LED headlights. Additionally, the Limited comes standard with the CVT transmission.
Subaru also offers several optional features that buyers will find desirable. Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist is an option, which includes forward facing cameras with collision warning, automatic braking, lane keeping assist and optimizes cruise control. Additional options include a moonroof, Rockford Fosgate premium audio system, remote engine start and a rear spoiler.
Subaru has taken particular care with the safety features of the Crosstrek. It has all the standard electronic safety features, including traction control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, rearview camera, and stability control. A full suite of airbags come standard in all Crosstrek trims. The front airbags are dual-stage and include a mechanism to detect how close the driver is sitting to the steering wheel, delaying airbag deployment accordingly. With all the safety features Subaru has included in the Crosstrek, it has earned a top pick with IIHS and an overall 5-stars with NHTSA.
